“The role played by Smart City Development Ltd in the fight against Covid-19 has been a significant one. The Command and Control Centre of SCDL has been helpful in monitoring and enforcing the lockdown,” Nehra said.
The centre carries out surveillance of Ahmedabad through the 3,500 cameras installed all across the city. In case, they find crowds gathered at a spot or people defying lockdown, the centre calls up the police control room to apprise them of the violation so that action can be taken against the offenders.
Among the recent Smart City projects involved in the Covid-19 battle is the vegetable-on-wheels as part of which e-rickshaws frequent residential societies to facilitate sale of vegetables. Besides, 155303, the helpline where senior citizens can call up and avail of essential goods, is another SCDL project.
Citizens can also complain about lack of services or improper civic work on this helpline. So far, the helpline had only 10 lines but it was expanded last week to include a total of 30 lines so more number of requests and complaints from citizens can be addressed. SCDL has also come up with a mobile application to keep a tab on the citizens who are under home-quarantine.
Variable messaging display screens have also been put up at 38 locations in the city and these flash messages and videos for public awareness. At present, these are being used to educate citizens about precautions to be taken against coronavirus.
Ahmedabad was on the second position for two weeks owing to fund transfer related issues after the Smart City ranking formula was changed in March 2020. It is back to being the top-ranked Smart City, AMC said.
